Liturgy for Lent
During Lent, our church and liturgy look a little different as we try to create a mood of restraint and simplicity.
• The hangings and vestments are purple, the colour of penitence, and we no longer decorate the altar with flowers.
• We avoid hymns with the word “alleluia” and we will say, rather than sing, the Lord’s Prayer.
• The joyful “Gloria in Excelsis” is replaced by the solemn Lenten Prose as we remember our need for God’s mercy. This act of confession takes a prominent place at the beginning of the eucharist.
Peninsula Communion Service: Tuesday, March 9th, at 10:30 a.m. [St. Mark’s].
Corporation Meeting: Tuesday, March 9th, at 7:30 p.m.
Interdenominational Lenten Lunches this Friday 12th March at First United Church, 15385 Semiahmoo Avenue, White Rock. The lunches are every Friday through the season of Lent from 12 noon - 1 p.m. Please come each week for coffee, tea, soup and a roll and some spiritual nourishment. All are welcome!
Workshop on Prayer - 9:30 to 12:30
On Saturday March 20th, the Rev. Alexis Saunders, our former associate priest, will be giving a workshop on prayer. If you are interested in attending please sign the sheet on the notice board.
Lent Reading
Check out great new titles in the library that are very suitable for devotional reading over Lent. Only one thing - don’t try to read a book and walk the labyrinth at the same time.
Come and Journey
Our labyrinth is unique in two ways! It changes colour as the path moves to and from the centre as a reflection of the themes of the church’s year. For further explanation of this interesting feature join us at 7:30 p.m. this Wednesday, 9th March. There will be plenty of time for walking the labyrinth after. Join us next Wednesday for a look at its other unique feature.
Annual Parish Vestry
A great vote of thanks to all those who made our annual vestry such a positive experience. It was a time of celebration, reflection and community building. And many thanks to all those kind souls who helped with the set-up, provided muffins and scones, served tea and coffee and particularly those who cleaned up. Congratulations to those who were appointed or elected to positions of leadership. We take a moment this morning to ask a blessing on them.

Kitchen needs
If you are cleaning out and/or downsizing and wish to donate a cutting board (we need three measuring approx. 22" x 18" that are new or like new), please bring it into the church office. Also the tablecloth cupboard is in need of cleaning and reorganizing. If you have some spare time and are looking for a small job, the church would appreciate your time. Thank you, and many thanks to all those people who have already donated items. Janet Scott.
