Anglican Church Women - ACW

The ACW meets on the third Thursday of every month (except July and August) at 1:30 p.m. in the Library. They work to support and promote the total ministry of the church through prayer, practical work and stewardship. More details in the yellow leaflet in the pews.

2009 ANGLICAN CHURCH WOMEN REPORT

The A.C.W. members met ten times during the year including a pot-luck party in June and a dessert party in December. Once again we have to report with sadness that we lost three of our loyal members during 2009, which brings our monthly attendance to a low average of 21.

In spite of this low figure we had our usual productive year especially with outreach. We sent 45 large bags of warm clothing to Memorial House which distributes them to the needy in Vancouver and the rest are included in bales to northern churches who really appreciate them. We are very grateful to Aline Aubin for all the hours she spends collecting and parcelling these articles and to Susan Cummings for transporting them to Memorial House in Vancouver.

We also knit baby caps for the premi wards at the hospital. Our thanks especially to Dorothy Lamb for these. Layettes are collected during the year for needy organizations, we also collect stamps, Campbell soup labels, Buy Low receipts and pull tabs from drink cans.

We had some excellent speakers during the year including Sheila Puls, the Diocesan ACW vice-president, who spoke on her adventures up north where she visited many of the churches where our bales are delivered; our prayer partner Father John Blyth, who spoke of his experiences at the Lambeth Conference in Canterbury; our new curate the Reverend Janice Lowell who gave a presentation on her 3 month stint in Belize and in November, 5 volunteer members of the R.C.M.P. spoke to us regarding safety for seniors.

In May we gave our annual strawberry tea to residents of St. Jude’s Home who all went home with a posy of flowers - even the men! Several lap-robes knitted by ACW members were given to St. Jude’s to distribute to needy members. At this tea we also celebrated the 100th birthday of Freda Fennell, a long time ACW member now living in Weatherby Pavilion. We have continued to knit lap-robes and blankets for street people all year.

Our members meet on the third Thursday of each month, usually at 1:30 p.m. with a cuppa and social time following the meeting. As all ladies worshipping at Holy Trinity are “Anglican Church Women” - why not come and join us and give us a try?

Respectfully submitted,
