Prayer of Blessing

Praise be to God, who has made every animal wise in the instinct given to it. Now, O Lord, we pray that you will bless all things that have breath, especially these creatures gathered with us today. Guard them form all evil and extinction. May they ever live in peace. Amen.

Following the Blessing with Holy Water, those persons who wish to have an individual blessing for themselves and their pets are asked to come forward to one of the priests. At that time the priest will gently touch each animal, call them by name and bless them.

Intercession and Thanksgiving
Leader We thank you, God for the gift of life: for the beauty and wonder of creation, and for our own life that comes from you.
People Glory to you forever and ever.
Leader We thank you for the richness of animal life; for fish and birds, reptiles and mammals.
People Glory to you forever and ever.
Leader We thank you for the animals who give us faithful companionship, joy when we are happy and comfort when we are sad.
People Glory to you forever and ever.
Leader We thank you for calling us to care for these animals. May we learn love and respect for all living things.
People Glory to you forever and ever.

Remembrance of our Departed Pets

Those people who have lost pets through death, running away, or being stolen may come forward. If you have a picture, it can be pinned on the memorial board. Or if you do not have a picture write its name on the paper provided and pin on the board.

Prayer (said together)

O God of the Universe, we ask you to bless those who have lost pets.
Grant to these animals peace in your kingdom. We pray through the intercession of St. Francis for Peace for All Owners and Pets. We ask through Christ our Lord.

Amen.
